Oakleaf Blake’s Gosport Bitter

Il microbirrificio Oakleaf Brewing Company viene fondato nel 2000 a Gosport (Hampshire, Inghilterra, di fronte a Portsmouth) da Dave Pickersgill e dal suo figliastro Ed Anderson (mastro birraio con alla spalle un'esperienza nella catena dei brewpub Firkin). Le loro birre hanno ovviamente una distribuzione principalmente locale, sia per quel che riguarda i pub che i beershops. La Blake's Gosport Bitter è una strong ale per la Good Beer Guide del CAMRA, una special bitter per Ratebeer. Di colore marrone opaco, con riflessi rubino; la schiuma è poco generosa e non molto fine, beige, poco persistente. Si tratta di una birra commemorativa della defunta Blake's Brewery, chiusa a Gosport nel 1926. Al naso sentori di biscotto, malto tostato ed esteri fruttati. Rifermentata in bottiglia, scarsamente carbonata ed un corpo leggero. L'imbocco è un po' troppo acquoso, a seguire troviamo malti tostati, leggere note fruttate (pera cotta), caramello. Una bitter che non eccelle per pulizia di gusto ed incontra un po' troppa acqua nella sua corsa. Si salva in extremis lasciando un retrogusto leggermente amaro ma elegante, dove convivono note erbacee e di tostatura.
