Kerst Pater Special Christmas

L’avevamo già assaggiata in questa occasione, giusto un paio di anni fa, la produzione natalizia della Brouwerij Van Den Bossche la cui ricetta, secondo quanto riportato dalla Good Beer Guide Belgium, varia leggermente di anno in anno. Questa volta ci troviamo tra le mani una classica bottiglia da 33 cl. invece della più generosa 75 cl. assaggiata in passato. Nel bicchiere è di un bel colore marrone scuro, con riflessi rubino. La schiuma, poco persistente, è beige, fine e cremosa. Aroma poco pronunciato, dove convivono frutta secca, melassa, prugne, toffee, malto tostato, leggera speziatura da lievito e leggeri sentori aspri che rimandano al ribes. Il contenuto alcolico dichiarato (9%) è molto ben nascosto e la Kerst Pater si lascia bere abbastanza bene; solida, dal corpo pieno, ha una consistenza oleosa ed una carbonazione media. In bocca il gusto è dolce, fruttato, che ricorda a tratti un vino rosso liquoroso invecchiato (frutti di bosco maturi); c’è del malto tostato, che scompare man mano che la birra si riscalda lasciando spazio a note leggermente aspre e fruttate. Un contraltare benvenuto in una birra molto dolce che però non risulta mai stucchevole, mantenendo un’ottima secchezza. Finisce abboccata, calda ed etilica, con un retrogusto leggermente tostato. Il nostro ricordo della Kerst Pater bevuta tempo da era un po’ migliore, ma tutto sommato rimane una buona natalizia che abbisogna di riposare un po’ di tempo nel bicchiere e raggiungere quasi la temperatura ambiente per “aprirsi” completamente. There’s roasted malts and, as the beer warms up, the same fruity tartness found in aroma. This comes to balance a mostly sweet beer. Dry mouthfeel, ends on a smooth alcoholic note which warms the palate up. Overall: a fairly good Belgian Christmas beer. Alcohol well hidden, good drinkability.
