Bad Attitude Hobo

english summary:
Brewery: Bad Attitude / Birrificio Ticinese Sa, Stabio, Switzerland.
Style: India Pale Ale
Appearance: deep ruby amber color with a rocky and lasting creamy off-white head. Aroma: crisp, fresh piney hops, grapefruit, mango, papaya. Mouthfeel: light body, high carbonation, watery texture. Taste: on a bready backbone there’re hints of tropical fruits followed by an intense resinous bitterness. Fairly dry finish, zesty and resinous hoppy aftertaste. Overall: a clean and tasty IPA brewerd with rye (27%), wheat (10%), Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo and Cascade hops. Well done, except for an excessive carbonation which made it less drinkable than what it was supposed to be. Bottle: 33 cl., 5.95% ABV, 62.5 IBUs, BB 27/Nov/2012, price 2.50 Euro.

Taste: bready malt, cereals, but mostly banana. Overall: a very good smelling and refreshing German hefeweizen which lacks of crispness. We had this bottle for some months in our cellar; it should be worthy to try it fresh from tap. Bottle: 50 cl., 5.9% ABV, BBE 05/2012, price 0.83. Euro.

Celtika 8,8°

Formato: 33 cl., alc. 8.8%, lotto CFTG2F4, scad. 06/05/2012, prezzo 2.40 Euro.

english summary:
Brewery: Brauwerk Eröffnungsbier, Switzerland
Style: Märzen
Appearance: cloudy golden color with a creamy white head. Aroma: honey, bread, flowery (chamomile). Mouthfeel: light body, low carbonation, watery texture. Taste: there’s an initial clean flavor of bread, cereals and honey, which is progressively spoiled by a big presence of dyacetyl. The palate is left sticky and buttery. Drinkability is not that great, which is a major fault considering this beer style. Bottle: 33 cl., 5.1% ABV, BB 24/04/2012, price 3.64 Euro.

Mouthfeel: medium body, medium carbonation, watery texture. Taste: an unusual mix of sweetness (peach, honey) and sourness (redcurrant, gooseberry). Very dry, clean and refreshing. Sour fruity aftertaste. Overall: very atypical sour Belgian ale, supposedly not to be sour at all, according to the brewery description. However, the result is interesting. Bottle: 33 cl., 5.2% ABV, batch 013/110, BBE 08/2012, price 3.39 Euro.

Taste: brown bread, roasted malts, caramel, hints of licorice. Sweet buy fairly dry. Overall: a clean and easily drinkable “dunkler bock” with ABV perfectly hidden. There’s a strong brown bread presence, sometimes you really feel like you are drinking some liquid bread. Bottle: 50 cl., 7.2% ABV, batch 249/13, BB 06/05/2012, price 2.50 Euro.

Hirsch Hopfensau

english summary:
Brewery: Hirsch-Brauerei Honer, Wurmlingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Style: Zwickel/Keller/Landbier
Appearance: hazy amber color with lasting creamy off-white head. Aroma: very light caramel, malty. Mouthfeel: light body, medium carbonation, watery texture. Taste: malt and caramel, wih a very light bitterness to balance. There's lots of water, and a shy earthy bitter aftertaste. Overall: a beer dedicated to the "Hop Festival" in the city of Tettnang. We expected some nice noble hops profile, but this bottle was a total disappointed, lacking in aroma, flavor and character. Bottle: 33 cl., 5.2% ABV, BB 13/Apr/2012.

Oakleaf Hole Hearted

english summary:
Brewery: Oakleaf Brewing Company, Gosport, Hampshire, England
Style: Golden Ale
Appearance: hazy golden color with a creamy off-white head. Aroma: citrusy, hints of grassy hops and sweet tropical fruits. Mouthfeel: light body, high carbonation, watery texture. Taste: gloriously bitter and zesty, with a very thin biscuit malt backbone. The finish is dry, with even more bitterness to come in the zesty aftertaste (hints of soap?). Overall: a tasty, sessionable and well done bottle conditioned beer, but with too much carbonation going on in this bottle. Lucky you who can get this from cask. Bottle: 50 cl., 4.7% ABV, batch H535, BB 26/May/2012, price 1.99 GBP.

Tschlin Boc Dubel

________________
english summary:
Brewery: Bieraria Tschlin, Tschlin, Switzerland
Style: Doppelbock
Appearance: very nice reddish/deep amber with thick, creamy off-white head. Aroma: sweet malt, caramel but also sour red fruits (gooseberries, redcurrant). Mouthfeel: medium body, low carbonation, smooth texture. Taste: roasted malt, caramel, sour fruitiness. Hints of earthy and roasted bitterness in the finish. Overall: a very peculiar “doppelbock”, with a sour profile which might be not really intentional ? However, alcohol is very well hidden and this beer has a very good drinkability. Not really within the style parameters; strange but still drinkable. Bottle: 33 cl., 7.2% ABV, BB 16/Apr/2012, price 5.04 Euro.

Zimella Carbone

________________
english summary:
Brewery: Birrificio Zimella, Bagno, Reggio Emilia, Italy.Style: StoutA very dark brown beer with a lasting, creamy tanned head. Coffe, roasted malt and cocoa in the nose, with hints of blackberries and ashes. More roasted malt, ashes and (liquid) bitter coffee in the taste. Short roasted aftertaste. This stout has medium body and low carbonation, yet it is still lacking the smoothness and creaminess of a “real” British stout.. Overall: an average good stout which can significantly be improved. It comes from a quite new (2010) Italian farm brewery, so let’s give them the time to look after their beers. Bottle: 50 cl.,5% ABV, batch 28/04/2011, BB 11/08/2012.

Brüll! Bier Dubbel XX

________________
english summary:
Brewery: Brüll Bier, Tagelswangen, Switzerland.
Style: Abbey Dubbel
Appearance: murky deep amber color with a quickly collapsing off-white head. Aroma: there’s a mixture of sweetness (caramel, candied fruits) and fruity sourness (green plums, redcurrants, gooseberries). Mouthfeel: medium body, very high carbonation, watery texture. Very dry, with some unpleasant astringency. Taste: caramel, roasted malt, hints of dried fruits, yeast. Flavors perception is very much disturbed by the excessive carbonation. The finish is better, smooth with some warming alcohol. Overall: supposedly a Belgian-dubbel style brewed in Switzerland, this is actually a confusing beer not properly matching the style. With a sour-ish aroma and an over carbonation, it has still a long way to go before turning into a good Dubbel. Bottle: 50 cl., 6% ABV, batch 871 (?), BB 22/March/2012, price 2.89 Euro.

Baladin Nazionale

english summary:
Brewery: Baladin, Piozzo, Cuneo, Italy.
Style: Belgian Ale.
Appearance: cloudy pale golden with a diminishing frothy white head. Aroma: crisp and peppery, yeast spices, orange pulp, yellow fruits (peach, apricot). Mouthfeel: light-medium body, high carbonation, watery texture. Taste: very clean, fruity (same as aroma) and spicy, with a lively peppery note and bready malt. Dry finish with a bitter grassy hoppy touch, short aftertaste. Overall: brewed with 100% Italian ingredients (water, malts and hops) this beer is called “national” but it is actually a clean and tasty Belgian-style ale. Not sure if this will ever be exported, but if you read on the label “100% Italian ingredients” then you are now warned; don’t be surprise if you’ll feel like being in Belgium.. Bottle: 75 cl., 6.5% ABV, batch 117/110, BBE 12/2013, price 7.50 Euro.

Style: dunkel ?
Appearance: slightly hazy amber color with a creamy off-white head. Aroma: very light caramel, toffee, roasted malt. Mouthfeel: light body, moderate carbonation, watery texture. Taste: mainly malty, with toffee, light butter, cereals, slightly roasted. The finish is shyly hoppy and kind of sticky (diacetyl). Overall: am easily drinkable sort of dunkel (or “Amber ale”, according to Ratebeer) which lacks in character. Not really exciting. Bottle: 33 cl., 5% ABV, BBE 04/2012, price 2.15 Euro.

Appearance: murky pale orange with a lasting creamy white head. Aroma: sweet citrusy and zesty. Mouthfeel: medium body, low carbonation, watery texture. Taste: predominantly hoppy and bitter, packed with lemon zest; there’s a bready malty backbone to balance a very dry taste. Intense zest bitter aftertaste, with hints of cereals. Overall: brewed with Chinook and East Kent Goldings, this is a good, honest, refreshing and easily drinkable IPA. Still room to improve tough: taste could be cleaner , aroma could be more elegant. Bottle: 50 cl., 5.4% ABV, 40 IBUs, batch L13, BBE 05/2012, price 4.00 Euro

Butcombe Brunel IPA

Style: India Pale Ale
Appearance: cloudy copper color with a creamy off-white head. Aroma: very light citrus. Nothing else. Mouthfeel: almost medium bodied, medium carbonation, oily texture. Taste: biscuity and nutty malt, with - obviously - a notable hoppy profile, grassy and citrusy. Finish is dry, with a firmly bitter hoppy aftertaste. Overall: we had this bottle in our cellar for some months and we didn't expect the freshest aroma. The taste could be cleaner and sharper. We didn't get very excited about this beer. Decent IPA, easily drinkable, surely best enjoyed from cask. Bottle: 50 cl., 5% ABV, batch 136, BB 16/May/2012, price 2.39 GBP

Rappi Fresh Hop Harvest Ale

__________________
english summary:
Brewery: Rappi Bier Factory, Rapperswil, Switzerland.
Style: India Pale Ale
Appearance: cloudy deep amber color with a generous and lingering frothy off-white head. Aroma: grassy and citrusy hops. Mouthfeel: medium body, medium carbonation, oily texture. Taste: caramel malt, resin, herbal hops and sweet citrus jam. Slightly peppery and dry, leaves a bitter and elegant spicy, resinous aftertaste with a touch of grapefruit.Overall: seasonal beer (autumn) brewed with fresh picked-up Swiss Perle hops. We grabbed a bottle in February and we certainly didn’t expect a “super fresh hop ale”. In spite of a certain lack of crispness, this is however still an enjoyable beer which, obviously, misses its own “raison d’etre”: freshness. We recommend you to visit the nice swiss medieval town of Rapperswil and enjoy a fresh pint directly from the brewery tap, next autumn. Bottle: 50 cl., 6.7% ABV, 45-50 IBUs, BB 20/Feb/2012, price 2.07 Euro.

Firestone Walker Pale 31

__________________
english summary:
Brewery: Firestone Walker Brewing Company, Paso Robles, California, USA
Style: American Pale Ale.
Appearance: clear golden color with a creamy white head. Aroma: crisp and clean; hints of pine, but mostly citrus (grapefruit, tangerine) and tropical fruits. Extremely nice, a beer you'd like to sniff all day long. Mouthfeel: light body, medium carbonation, watery texture. Taste: clean fruity hops, with more grapefruit and mango; finish is bitter and zesty, with a perfect balance. Very dry to the palate, this beer has a crisp malty and biscuity backbone, and a smooth, gentle but long, bitter grapefruit aftertaste. Overall: simply, one of the best APAs we ever tasted. It's so full of flavors and clean, with an amazing drinkability. It's really dangerous. Bottle: 35.5 cl., 4.6% ABV, BBE 06/2o12, price 3.24 Euro.

Troubadour Obscura

__________________
english summary:
Brewery: Brouwerij The Musketeers, Ursel, Belgium. Brewed at De Proef, Belgium.
Style: stout
Appearance: ruby dark brown with a creamy light brown head. Aroma: cocoa, roasted malt, grassy and earthy hops. Mouthfeel: medium body, low carbonation, oily texture. Quite smooth. Taste: roasted malt, hints of chocolate, with a predominant earthy bitterness. Dry finish, bitter “earthy” aftertaste with a warm alcoholic touch. Overall: the bottle says “mild stout” but we found this beer a cross between a strong dark ale and a stout. With an ABV very well hidden, this is a very drinkable brew, but taste could be much more cleaner. Amongst the “Troubadour” series, this is the one we liked less. Bottle: 75 cl., 8.2% ABV, BBE 11/2012, price 6.50 Euro.

Stadlbräu Oberhaching Kybier

__________________
english summary:
Brewery: Stadlbräu Oberhaching, Oberhaching, Bavaria, Germany
Style: dunkelweizen
Appearance: hazy red brown color with a creamy and lasting off-white head. Aroma: very light toffee, roasted malt. Mouthfeel: light body, medium carbonation, watery texture. Taste: caramel, roasted malt, grassy hoppy bitterness. Very dry with a light astringency. Short earthy and roasted bitter aftertaste. Overall: according to the brewery description, this beer is “brewed as an Altbier, hoppy as a pils, fermented as a Weizen” or, as the brewpub customers call it, “the bavarian Guinness”. Quite not anything like that. Quite similar the dunkelweizen-style, yet we did not find any wheat character in it. Very drinkable – as most of Bavarian beers – but not very tasteful, at least in this bottle. 50 cl., 5.3% ABV, batch “D”, BBE 04/2012, price 0.93 Euro.
